I played a lot of bad games this year. I actually had to narrow my list down to just 10 games and I’m happy that I’m done torturing myself and can finally announce my top 10 worst games of 2020!
Where do I start with this one? My love/hate relationship with this game turned (mostly) into pure hate. Yes, the combat is great, but nothing else is. This game is very dialogue-heavy, and that would usually be a big positive for me if it were good dialogue. It’s not and I had to sit through 30-40 minutes of straight dialogue that would give me 5 minutes of gameplay followed by 30 minutes of more subpar dialogue. It eventually wore me down, and when I did get some “freedom”, I was prevented from going back to some zones because of story purposes.
Every time I started to have fun in this game it did its best to sap what little enjoyment I was getting away from me. I wish I still had access to my old website because I would love to link my review here because I went into deep detail and broke down everything I didn’t like about this game. If I could describe this game in a single word it would be disappointing. I really wanted to like this game and I truly did when I started, but as I kept playing through that incredibly long, and annoying, first chapter, I started to dislike it until I just wanted it to be over.
Good combat can only take a game so far. This game made me wait for 25 hours to create my own character. That’s when the game got started. Even after the 25 hours mark (I have over 60 hours in total) I did not have fun with the game. The side quest are terrible, this is one of the buggiest games I’ve played all year (yes, buggier than Cyberpunk) and one of the worst PC ports I’ve played in a long time. Japanese games got a lot better when it comes to delivering solid PC ports. Look at Ni No Kuni 2. That game is completely playable with a mouse and keyboard and that game released two years ago.
The biggest selling point of this game was multiplayer and even that was a big disappointment for me. By the time the end credits rolled I was happy that I was finished with this game so I could move on to something better. I took a big leap of faith by buying this game on day one and I regret that because it was damn near unplayable. Side quests wouldn’t load or bugged out with no way to complete them, I would randomly crash to desktop and be forced to go through 15-20 minutes sections with nothing but dialogue, and I have major FPS issues. This game was near unplayable for me and it only added to my frustration with it.
Believe or not, this is only the tip of the iceberg for my top 10 worst games of 2020. I’ve actually played games in worst condition than this and, as I stated above, I have a love/hate relationship with it. I have no idea if any of my issues have been fixed or not because I don’t care enough to reinstall this game to find out. I don’t want to sit through hours of boring dialogue, completing dull side quest, and fighting in awesome boss fights. That’s really the only thing this game has going for it. Well… that and the sexy girls you can see in your tent.
Hi,
I’m Omar. I’m the founder of drakulus.com and the new founder of Petescorner.net. I cover every type of game genre there is and I’m using all of the skills I learned over the last 7 years working on Drakulus to make Pete’s Corner the best it can be. My favorite types of games are strategy, RPGs, and Shooters. That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy other types of genres. Those are just my top 3. You can expect my brutally honest opinion on what I think of games in long reviews, editorial pieces, and game news coverage.
